Crash reported around 8:10 a.m. Saturday, NTSB said

One person died after a small plane crashed on takeoff in Salem early Saturday morning.
The calls came in around 8:25 a.m., Salem police said. The plane burst into flames, which were quickly extinguished by firefighters.
Peter Knudson with the NTSB told KOIN 6 News the plane was a Mooney M20E with only the pilot aboard. Knudson also said the plane collided with a train after crashing, but Salem police said that is not the case.
The identity of the victim has not yet been determined.
