Authorities in Cambria County are investigating the death of a young child following an ATV crash in Adams Township.
Officials say the crash happened south of Salix along Palestine Road around 6:30 p.m.
Cambria County Chief Deputy Coroner Jeffrey Lees told 6News a 6-year-old girl was killed when she was thrown from ATV after the 16-year-old driver lost control on a hill.
Lees said the child suffered injuries to her upper body and was taken to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, where she died from her injuries.
"The cause of death is a severe head and neck injury due to blunt force trauma," Lees said.
Lees did not release the name Thursday night but said the girl was to start first grade at Forest Hills Elementary school.
Authorities told 6News the investigation continues.
