Four early-morning commuter trains were canceled and several
others were delayed up to 45 minutes Wednesday morning after a Tuesday night
freight train derailment caused severe track damage, Metrolink officials said.
Six cars derailed on a BNSF freight train, which originated
in Los Angeles and stopped when a wheel came off the
track around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday at Esperanza Road, near the 91 freeway in
Anaheim, BNSF spokeswoman Lena Kent said.
All of the cars remained upright after the derailment.
The derailment caused severe damage to one of the tracks in
the area, and while officials reopened at least one of the undamaged tracks
Wednesday morning, passing trains were required to travel through the area at
very slow speeds, said Jeff Lustgarten, a Metrolink spokesman.

at least one wheel on a BNSF Railway train came off the track in Anaheim
Tuesday evening.
Jeff Lustgarten, a spokesman for Metrolink, says several
commuter trains on the Inland Empire and 91 lines in both directions are
disrupted early Wednesday.
Lustgarten says the agency is making arrangements for
alternate transportation using OCTA buses from Orange County or Riverside
Transit Agency buses for the Inland Empire line.
The cause of the derailment is under investigation. The
freight train originated in Los Angeles and was heading for Houston.
No injuries are reported.
Trains are safe. All aboard.
