SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA)

Shreveport police are investigating a train wreck that left West 70th Street blocked to traffic for a while.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Valley View Drive at Mansfield Road.

Shreveport Police Sergeant Rod Johnson tells KSLA News 12 that an 18-wheeler was reportedly crossing the train tracks when it was hit by a train. Johnson says neither the 18-wheeler or train was loaded and no injuries were reported.

Johnson also says the train did not derail and the train and 18-wheeler both only sustained minor damages. The stopped train did block West 70th Street for a while causing congestion in the area.

Shreveport Assistant to the Fire Chief Fred Sanders says a medic unit responding to the area was also involved in a wreck.  Sanders says the medic unit reportedly struck a pickup truck with an attached trailer that was turning onto Mansfield Road causing the trailer to flip upside down.

One firefighter was transported to an area hospital for evaluation although Sanders says no injuries were reported.

No names have been released.
