RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (AP)
A Riverhead man was killed Monday after apparently hitting a
pothole and losing control of his motorcycle, Riverhead police said.
Police said that a passing motorist found David DeCarle, 37,
injured in the eastbound lane of Reeves Avenue in Riverhead at 4:28 p.m.
DeCarle was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center, where he
died.
An uncle, Jim DeCarle, said the two had visited the Long
Island Sound and the U.S. Open tennis tournament when his nephew was younger.
"Those were always some of the best times I had with him," Jim
DeCarle said.
In later years, his nephew developed a
"fascination" with motorcycles, Jim DeCarle said. David DeCarle's
Facebook page features a photograph of a motorcycle and Twisted Sister singer
Dee Snider and others in motorcycle gear.
The Riverhead Police Department is investigating the crash
and officials said witnesses could call police at 631-727-4500.
