CLARK COUNTY, INDIANA (WISH)
21 people were injured, including members from the Indiana
Tech bowling teams after a bus crash in southern Indiana Thursday morning.
It happened on southbound Interstate 65 in Clark County. The
crash happened near the 22 mile marker, which is near Henryville. I-65 was shut
down in that area, though later Thursday afternoon Indiana State Police
officials said lanes were slowly reopening.
Around 10:25 a.m. Thursday, the bus partially drove off the
road “for an unknown reason” in the southbound lanes of Interstate 65 near
Henryville, Indiana State Police officials said. The driver got the bus back on
the road but it veered to the other side of the southbound lanes before
crashing. The bus landed on its side.
Perhaps the driver was trying to avoid something on the road or perhaps
he fell asleep (less likely if they just started their road trip). In any event, evasive maneuvers are a
no-no-no when you drive a bus, a truck, etc.
These vehicles will rollover or a flip on their side in a bit, as it
obviously happened here. We wish them
rapid recovery.
There were 21 people on the bus, including the driver. All
of the passengers were from Indiana Tech, with 16 students from the men’s and
women’s bowling teams among them. Staff members were also on the bus.

The bus crashed while heading to the UFBC Sectionals
competition in Smyrna, Tennessee.
Injured passengers were taken to Louisville hospitals.
School officials said they were still working to determine the extent of their
injuries. The school was making staff members available at the Fort Wayne
campus for anyone needing to talk.
The bus is from Excursions Trailways. A representative from
the company told 24-Hour News 8 they were gathering information about the
crash.
No fatalities have been reported.
Indiana Gov. Mike Pence released a statement after finding
out about the crash.
“Our hearts go out to the Hoosiers impacted by this
morning’s bus crash in southern Indiana. The State of Indiana is coordinating a
multi-agency response, with Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter
traveling now to the area. As law enforcement and emergency personnel respond
to this situation, we urge all Hoosiers to hold these men and women in their
thoughts and prayers.
