1 KILLED, 3 INJURED IN CRASH ON I-95 SB IN ROCKLEDGE, FLORIDA

A deadly rollover crash that killed one person and injured three others closed southbound I-95 in Brevard County for more than five hours Wednesday.




The crash happened just before noon near mile marker 192, in Rockledge. All southbound lanes were shut down at Fiske Boulevard and reopened around 5:45 p.m.




Florida Highway Patrol troopers are still investigating the chain of events in this crash, which involved a pickup truck, car and tractor-trailer.




Sixty-six-year-old Susan Bartholomay, of Merritt Island, was transported to Health First Viera Hospital and pronounced dead. Three others were taken to area hospitals with minor or serious injuries.




Charges are pending in this crash.

Florida Highway Patrol reported that a tractor-trailer, a Toyota pickup and a Hyundai sedan, collided as they travelled southbound

Traffic in the Viera area was snarled for most of the afternoon following a deadly wreck Wednesday on Interstate 95 between Fiske Boulevard and Wickham Road.

The exact circumstances of the crash are still under investigation, but the Florida Highway Patrol reported that a tractor-trailer, a Toyota pickup and a Hyundai sedan, collided as they travelled southbound.

The Hyundai's driver, 66-year-old Susan Bartholomay of Merritt Island, was killed. Her passenger, 76-year-old Roger Bartholomay, was seriously injured.
Additionally, the pickup driver, 58-year-old Jeffrey Suter of Titusville, received minor injuries as did the tractor-trailer driver, 51-year-old Alesia Williams of North Carolina.

Not long after the incident, first-responders closed southbound lanes, diverting traffic off the highway to Barnes Boulevard to U.S. 1 and Stadium Parkway through Viera.

By afternoon drive time, several minor wrecks dotted the surrounding roads, futher slowing travel.

Interstate 95 was reopened around 6 p.m.
Troopers would like to talk to more witnesses as part of their investigation. They are asked to call 407-737-2213.

Update, 5:45 p.m.:
Interstate 95 has been reopened southbound, though traffic is still very heavy in the area.

Update, 5:10 p.m.
Traffic is snarled throughout Viera, potentially as traffic is rerouted due to the crash on Interstate 95. Reports of major traffic delays have been reported going both ways on U.S. 1 in the area.
U.S. 1 is experiencing heavy traffic from Barnes Boulevard in Rockledge to Suntree Boulevard. Murrell Road is also heavily trafficked, according to FLORIDA TODAY's Tim Walters.

Update, 3:05 p.m.:
According to Montes, the hope is to have Interstate 95 in Rockledge southbound open within the hour.
Montes added that all traffic that was caught in between the wreck and Fiske Boulevard in Rockledge were allowed to pass on the shoulder past the accident.

Update, 12:55 p.m.:
The crash involving a vehicle, pickup truck and tractor-trailer has resulted in at least one fatality, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
Two other people have been transported to a local hospital.
All southbound lanes of I-95 remain closed due to crash debris and a continuing investigation.

The crash involved a pickup truck and another vehicle, according to Kim Montes of the Florida Highway Patrol.
Three patients have been transported to area hospitals, according to Brevard County Fire Rescue. One has sustained serious injuries.
Crews were first dispatched at 12:03 p.m.
