1 DEAD IN ROTTERDAM,
NEW YORK FROM A HOUSE FIRE
January 28, 2015
ROTTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A house caught on fire in
Rotterdam on Wednesday, and one person has died.
The fire was located at 1930 Rensselaer Ave. The call for
the fire came in just after 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Rotterdam Fire Department
District II was first on scene.
“There was a report that there was somebody in the house,”
Schenectady County Fire Coordinator John Nuzback said. “They made an entry, and
they did in fact find a victim.”
Nuzback said five different fire departments arrived to the
scene.
“They got right into the house,” he said. “Although it was
pretty well involved in the room that the victim was they got right in and got
him out.”
Nuzback said Rotterdam EMS pronounced the victim dead upon
arrival despite revival efforts. The sex of the victim is being withheld until
positive identification.
Authorities are unsure if the victim lived alone.
Officials have not begun an investigation into the cause of
the fire, but they do not believe it to be suspicious.
“Not at this point,” Nuzback said. “We have to get in and
take a look around, and we have help coming from Office of Fire and Prevention
and Control for technical assistance from them.”
