Update- The Lucas County Sheriff's Office has confirmed one person is dead as a result of Wednesday's plane crash.
In a written statement, Sheriff Brett Tharp said that the pilot was the only person on board the plane. Tharp went on to say that he didn't survive the crash.
Lucas County was notified around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday that air traffic controllers in Des Moines had lost contact with the plane.
The plane was originally believed to have gone down in Monroe County.
The crash site was eventually located around 5:30 p.m. Tharp described the actual crash site as remote part of northeastern Lucas County.
The owner of the airplane is listed as Wolf Aviation LLC in West Des Moines, Iowa.

A Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson has provided some additional details about the Wednesday plane crash in Lucas County.
Elizabeth Cory told KTVO that the National Transportation Safety Board is spearheading the investigation.
Cory did confirm that the plane was a General Aviation aircraft, and not an ultra light.
The plane was a privately owned PA-46, that is a smaller plane.
Cory also clarified the time frame. She said the plane went missing around 1 p.m. It was located just before 7 p.m.
She had no information on casualties. That information would come from search and rescue teams.
The investigation into the cause could take up to a year.
