General cargo vessel VITIM grounded, engine room flooded, Japan sea

General cargo vessel VITIM ran aground in the morning Aug 25 while leaving Zolotaya (Golden) Bay, north of Primorye Region, Tatarskiy Strait – Japan sea. 


Hull is breached in ballast tank and engine room areas, water ingress, engine room flooded. Vessel doesn’t have power, salvage tug MB-344 is at site, two more tugs, MB-354 and MB-356 with divers on board, are on the way. 

Vessel is loaded with 4600 cubic meters of timber, lightering required before refloating attempts.
