CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

A man is dead and a woman was hospitalized after a head-on crash in east Charlotte late Tuesday night.

Officers said the crash happened just after 9:30 p.m. on Winedale Lane neat W.T. Harris Boulevard.

Investigators told Channel 9 that Jonathan Furr, 51, was driving a Ford Focus about 50 mph -- twice the posted speed limit -- and crossed into oncoming traffic, slamming into a Volkswagen Jetta driven by Keyosha McVay.

Furr was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers said he was not wearing a seat belt and they believe he had been drinking.

McVay was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. She was charged for not having a driver's license.
