MOBILE, AL (WALA) -
Alabama State Troopers are heading an investigation into a boating crash that killed two people and injured three others.
Trooper Jamie Maloy, of the ALEA Public Information and Education Unit, said 32 year-old vessel operator Robert Lance Criswell of Jackson, Alabama and passenger 28 year-old Samuel Jacob Hawk of Thomasville were killed when the 2007 Sea Hunt 220 they were aboard struck a pier entering Oyster Bay Saturday night.
Officials say the accident happened at 9:15 p.m. along the Inter Coastal Waterway Saturday.
"No PFDs were in use at the time of the crash," said Maloy. "Preliminary investigation indicates alcohol may have been a factor in the crash."
Three other passengers were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Alabama State Troopers and ALEA's Marine Patrol Division continue to investigate the accident.
