Crash starts grass fire near Rancho Murieta

RANCHO MURIETA, Calif. (KCRA) —Two drivers were killed in a fiery head-on crash along Jackson Highway near Rancho Murieta late Tuesday night.
An SUV traveling east was towing a trailer when it collided with another car that was going west in the eastbound lane, the California Highway Patrol said.
Four people were inside the SUV, including a woman and two children, both of whom were able to escape. The driver did not survive.
The driver of the other vehicle was also killed, CHP said. The conditions of the other victims were not immediately known.
Sac Metro said that at least one of the vehicles was fully engulfed in flames. Video of the crash scene showed intense flames continuing to burn along the highway.
Crews are currently working to put out a small grass fire that was sparked by the crash, officials said.
The crash happened just east of Murieta South Parkway. Parts of the highway are closed.
