BOULDER, Colo. -

A sinkhole opened up on a Boulder road, swallowing a car above it.

Crews say a water main break early Sunday evening caused the hole at Iris Avenue and Folsom Street. A drain pipe gave out, and flooded the road with about 4 inches of water.

Boulder Police say one woman was in the car, which was headed westbound, at the time. She is okay.

The hole is about 4-feet deep and as wide as a single lane of traffic.

Iris will be closed overnight from 26th to 27th streets in both directions. The goal was to reopen the road before Monday morning rush hour, but crews at the scene told 7NEWS it could take longer.

Officials don't anticipate that anyone's water should be affected.

The city reminds drivers that if you see water, don't drive through it.
