Hazmat crews from several fire departments responded late Wednesday night to reports of a chemical leak at a shipping and receiving facility in Kent.

A 55-gallon drum of organic peroxide was punctured by a forklift at a Fed-X facility in the 6250 block of South 228th Street, according to a Kent Fire Department news release. The driver was evaluated by King County paramedics and released.

There were 30 employees at the facility at the time of the spill a little before midnight, but no one besides the driver was exposed, according to Kent Fire.

The chemical spill was confined to the trailer holding the drum, and only a small amount leaked out of the trailer onto the asphalt, fire officials said. The leak did not reach any storm drains.
