A
motorist who blew through a stop sign and crashed into a boat repair
shop went on to blow double the legal limit for alcohol on a Macomb
County breathalyzer machine, police said.
A deputy on patrol at 2 a.m. on July 4 in Harrison Township was behind the driver northbound on Jefferson when the 2015 Chrysler 200 crossed South River Road and drove straight into the front of Blue Water Marine at 30201 South River Road, according to a news release today from Macomb County Sheriff's Office.
The 28-year-old Novi man crawled from the wreckage in the heavily damaged building and admitted to deputies that he'd been drinking at a local bar that night, according to the sheriff's office. He was arrested and blew breathalyzer readings of 0.16% and 0.17% blood-alcohol content. The legal limit is 0.08%.
The man, who escaped injury, was charged with a first offense operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He's been released from jail on $100 bond.
