HUDSON, NEW YORK
An Amtrak train arrived at the city’s train station Monday afternoon with its undercarriage on fire.
Hudson firefighters were called to the Hudson Amtrak station at 69 S. Front St. at around 4:40 p.m. Monday to a report of smoke coming from the wheel areas of an Amtrak train that had just arrived at the station. The train had multiple fires in its undercarriage
The three fires were caused by
dead leaves that had gotten pulled into the wheel wells and ignited,
Hudson Fire Department Chief James Schermerhorn said.
Hudson firefighters spent several
minutes pumping water into the wheel wells at the three locations
before passengers at the station and crew were allowed to board. The
train, which was headed to Poughkeepsie, was delayed for an hour.
Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari
said that crew members were forced to call for help for city
firefighters when they could not extinguish the fire using hand
extinguishers on board the train. There no injuries resulting from the
fires, he added.
The train, which started its travels in Chicago, had arrived from Rensselaer on its way to New York City.
