GRIM PIPER TAKES MORE TOLLS: FAMILY OF 4 KILLED IN FIERY CRASH OF PIPER PA-24 SMALL PLANE IN SPRING BRANCH, TEXAS

MAY 17, 2015

SPRING BRANCH, COMAL COUNTY, TEXAS

A Texas man, his wife and their two children died when the plane they were flying crashed next to a feed store shortly after takeoff Saturday, investigators say.

The Comal County Sheriff’s Office identified those killed as 38-year-old pilot Michael Scott Galloway of Spring Branch, his 32-year-old wife Heather Louise Galloway, their 10-year-old son Clayton T. Galloway and their 8-year-old daughter Cheyenne Elizabeth Galloway.
The Federal Aviation Administration reports the single-engine Piper PA-24 aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff from Kestrel Air Park in central Texas about 12:30 p.m. local time.
Sheriff’s Capt. Tommy Ward says the plane crashed into a grassy area next to a feed store parking lot. There were no injuries or damage reported on the ground.
Spring Branch is about 30 miles north of San Antonio.
The Piper PA-24 Comanche is a four-seat, low-wing, all-metal, light aircraft of semi-monocoque construction with tricycle retractable landing gear. Piper Aircraft designed and developed the Comanche; it first flew on May 24, 1956. Together with the Twin Comanche, it made up the core of the Piper Aircraft lineup until 1972, when the production lines for both aircraft were wiped out in a flood.
