February 4, 2015
CHESWOLD, DELAWARE –
A Dover man was pronounced dead at the scene of a single-car
early morning crash Wednesday, police announced later that same morning.
The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating this single vehicle fatal crash that occurred early this morning south west of Cheswold.
The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday February 4, 2015, as Wilson E. Seeney, 54 of Dover, was operating a 1996 Chevrolet Silverado southbound on Pearson’s Corner Road approximately .3 mile north of Dinah’s Corner Road at an apparent high rate of speed.
As the operator attempted to negotiate a left curve, the right side tires traveled off the west edge of the roadway causing the vehicle to begin to rotate in a counter-clockwise manner. The truck then crossed both lanes and drove off the east side of the roadway striking a group of mailboxes and a telephone pole before crashing into a house located at 4880 Pearson’s Corner Road. The vehicle then caught fire, trapping the operator inside and also catching a portion of the home on fire before Cheswold Fire Company responded to extinguish the flames.
Wilson Seeney, the sole occupant of the truck, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two adult residents of the house were home at the time and were uninjured.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. Pearson’s Corner Road, between Dinah’s Corner Road and Blue Heron Road, was closed for approximately three hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
