BENSALEM,
PA — A fire started in a Bensalem home Saturday while the family was
watching television.
No
one was injured, said Bensalem Battalion Chief Rob Sponheimer, but the home was
left uninhabitable.
Firefighters
rescued three cats believed to be trapped inside the home.
The
fire was reported shortly after 2 p.m. on the 2800 block of Berwyn Road off
Stratford Road in the Nottingham section of the township.
Nottingham
Fire Co. Chief Ron Harris said firefighters arrived to find smoke pouring from
the eaves of the home and the gable ends at the roof line.
The
family smelled and saw smoke and got out. Firefighters from the Nottingham,
Trevose and Penndel companies at the blaze under control at 2:19 p.m.
Sponheimer
said the fire originated in a closet in an addition on the rear of the home.
But how it started remains under investigation.
The
rear of the home and attic sustained significant damage, and the remainder of
the house has heavy smoke damage.
The
family of four was getting assistance from the Red Cross for a temporary place
to stay.
