JACKKNIFE
TRACTOR-TRAILER CRASH ON ROUTE 202 IN BEDMINSTER, NEW JERSEY AFTER THE DRIVER STRUCK A ROAD
SIGN. DIESEL FUEL SPILLED DUE TO RUPTURED FUEL LINE.
BEDMINSTER, NJ —There were no injuries in a jackknife
tractor-trailer crash on Route 202 in Bedminster Wednesday morning, police said.
A UPS truck was traveling north in the center lane and
approaching the Route 202/206 split just before 5 a.m. when an unidentified
vehicle in the left lane drifted into the middle lane, police said.
The driver of the UPS truck, Gary Martin of Knowlton, tried
to avoid the vehicle by maneuvering to the right, but the trailer's right-rear
tire struck a road sign, according to police.
Police said the truck jackknifed and came to a rest on the
left-side guardrail.
As a result of the impact, the truck's left fuel tank
ruptured, spilling diesel fuel onto the roadway, police said.
There were no injuries reported as a result of the incident,
police said.
Route 202/206 northbound was closed until 8:30 a.m., police
said. Bedminster Police, Far Hills Bedminster Fire Department, the New Jersey
Department of Transportation, Somerset County Hazmat and the State Police
Incident Management Unit all responded to the scene.
