PLUMBING REPAIR CREW RUPTURES 3-INCH GAS LINE IN WESTON, FLORIDA
A natural-gas leak took several hours to patch up Saturday near a
golf course in Weston, a Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue spokesman said.
About
three dozen firefighters from the agency's hazardous-materials team and
Sunrise Fire Rescue were on-site trying to halt the leak at Bonaventure
and Blatt boulevards, Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue spokesman Mike
Jachles said.
Shortly before noon, workers making a plumbing
repair struck a 3-inch gas line at the nearby golf course, Bonaventure
Country Club, causing the leak, he said.
The
"significant operation" required a lot of manpower to get to the
damaged gas line that was 5 feet underground, Jachles said.
Utilities workers from the city of Sunrise were also on scene to repair the leak.
No homes were evacuated. Some nearby businesses may have been affected, though it's unclear how many.
