MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WXYZ) -
Michigan State Police are investigating a deadly accident that took the life of
a 21-year-old man from Holly.
He has been identified as
21-year-old Cody Petzold. Police say he was driving the truck.
The accident sent Petzold's truck
plummeting from southbound I-75 onto 12 Mile Road, where it ended up sitting
upside down.
Another man who was a passenger in
the vehicle has been taken to the hospital. His condition isn't known. He has
not been identified.
Police say the men were riding in a
2005 GMC Sierra pick-up when they drove around the barricades on the entrance
ramp from westbound 12 Mile to southbound I-75.
The ramp is currently closed following an October accident where a truck clipped the
southbound I-75 overpass over 12 Mile . Part of the overpass has
been demolished and is being rebuilt.
Officers say that, as the truck
entered I-75 from the closed ramp, Petzold drove through another barricade and
the truck fell off the overpass where it had been demolished. It turned over
and landed on it's roof on the road below.
It's not clear why Petzold
disregarded the barriers. It's also not known if alcohol was a factor in
the crash.
