A 12-year-old boy drowned Tuesday in a pool at Fairhaven Baptist Church in Chesterton, officials said.
Davion Henderson, of Chicago, was part of a church group from Illinois that had been visiting Fairhaven Baptist, Porter County Coroner Chuck Harris said.
The boy was swimming in the pool with others when he was discovered unresponsive, Harris said. He was taken about 5 p.m. to Porter Regional Hospital, where he later was pronounced dead.
Witnesses told authorities Henderson drowned in an area of the pool that was about 3 feet deep, Harris said.
Autopsy results are pending, he said.
Porter County sheriff's police are investigating.
