CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) -

A marina worker in Carolina Beach died from a possible drowning Wednesday afternoon.

According to Det. Hettinger with the Carolina Beach police, the victim and a co-worker were cleaning the bottom of the boats at Joyner Marina, located at 401 Marina Street, around 12 p.m. when the incident happened.

The co-worker alerted 911 and first responders pulled the victim from the water and immediately began CPR for 45 minutes, which was ultimately unsuccessful.

Hettinger said an initial investigation revealed no signs of suspicious circumstances surrounding the worker's death.

Police are awaiting autopsy results to conclusively identify a cause of death.

Hettinger declined to identify the victim and said they are in the process of notifying family.
