PLAINFIELD, IL — A 50-year-old man has died after being pulled through a steel baler early Thursday morning at Coilplus, Inc., located at 14023 Coil Plus Drive in Plainfield.
Carlos Rivera, 50, of Joliet, was pronounced dead at 2:15 a.m. at Coilplus, according to the Will County Coroner's Office. An autopsy performed Thursday showed Rivera sustained multiple injuries in the incident, which is believed to be accidental, Plainfield police said.
Coilplus did not want to comment for this story.
According to a source who has family that works there, that death occurred during the second shift. When workers arrived at 5 a.m. this morning, they saw a police presence and were told to go home.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration will be opening an investigation against the business, according to OSHA spokeswoman Rhonda Burke. Burke said Rivera had been caught in a steel baler. Coilplus has not been the subject of any previous investigations.
