A worker died after he came into contact with power lines while he was on scaffolding.

Madison County Coroner Stephen P. Nonn identified the victim as Geoffrey L. Walthes, 34, of Germantown.

Nonn said Walthes worked as a waterproofing contactor. On Thursday morning, he came into contact with the live power lines and fell off the scaffolding to the ground. The Alhambra Fire Department and EMS were called at 9:19 a.m.

He was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Highland, where he was pronounced dead at 10:38 a.m.

An autopsy was planned for Friday to clarify the cause of death, Nonn said.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
