ALLEN COUNTY, INDIANA. (WANE)

Police said the driver of a pick-up truck is dead after a fiery crash on I-69 Thursday.

According to Allen County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Steve Stone, around 5:30 p.m. a pick-up truck headed north on I-69 around the 317 mm went through the median, into oncoming traffic and then clipped the rear axle of a semi tanker, which took the rear axle completely off.

The truck then caught on fire. A fire department responded and was able to put the fire out quickly.

Police have closed southbound I-69 at the 317 mile marker, which is at Union Chapel Road. Motorists are being re-routed to the Union Chapel exit. Drivers are being asked to avoid the entire area, from mile marker 315, near Parkview Regional Medical Center, to the 318 mile marker.

Both lanes of northbound I-69 were open by about 9:30 p.m.

There were no other reported injuries.
