Female road construction worker seriously injured after driver entered in a closed ramp to I-64 in Illinois

WASHINGTON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - 

An Illinois construction worker is in the hospital after getting hit by a vehicle in Washington County, Il. Monday evening.

Illinois State Police report Jennifer Huels, 31 of Carlyle, was on the ground servicing machinery on the on-ramp approaching I-64 just west of Il. 177.

All traffic on the ramp was shut down due to repaving construction at that time.

According to ISP, just after 6 p.m. on Monday, Henry Ford, 60 of Belleville, driving a 2002 Jeep Cherokee, enters the closed ramp and hit Huels as she was working on her machinery.

Huels was was airlifted to Saint Louis University Hospital for injuries suffered from that crash.

State police were on the scene for several hours.

An investigation is still ongoing.
