EAST MEADOW, N.Y. (AP) -

A Long Island man is facing manslaughter, reckless driving and other charges following a deadly crash.

Nassau County police say officers saw Justin M. Daley of Hicksville exiting an East Meadow motel parking lot just before midnight Monday night. They say he took off at "a high rate of speed" eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike.

He later collided with a car driven by an off-duty hospital worker. The 58-year-old was pronounced dead at the hospital where she worked, Nassau University Medical Center.

Daley is under arrest while being treated for a leg injury.

His arraignment has yet to be scheduled. It's not immediately clear whether he has a lawyer who can comment on the charges.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety inspections
