PITTSBURGH, PA (KDKA)

OSHA and police are investigating a deadly industrial accident in Wilkinsburg.

A man in a lift was crushed against a ceiling on Kelly Street, under the East Busway overpass.  The lift was a Skyworks, LLC lift with model number 660SJ.

A crew working for Gulisek Construction was patching the bridge when one of the workers operating a hydraulic lift was injured.

A neighbor who lives in the apartment building nearby was awakened by a horn that went off after the accident.

“Two construction workers were running up the street to block traffic and I heard one say, ‘he’s not breathing, he’s not breathing!'” said the neighbor who did not want to be identified.

The cause of the accident is under investigation, but it’s believed the worker, 35-year-old Sean Kelly of Monroeville, was somehow pinned under the overpass while operating the lift.

Paramedics performed CPR, but Kelly was pronounced dead at the scene.
KDKA has learned that Gulisek Construction of Mt. Pleasant has a contract to repair 22 Port Authority Bridges, but it’s still not known how the accident happened.

The Allegheny County medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
