A shelter-in-place was lifted for part of the Houston Ship Channel Wednesday hours after a barge leaked flammable liquid into the channel.

The barge was docked when another barge being towed slammed into it and punctured a hole in the side, according to the Coast Guard.

The barge was carrying naphtha, a highly volatile liquid.

About 500 barrels of naphtha spilled into the water before crews were able to stop the leak.

Crews put booms around the barge to help contain the spill. They believe most of it will evaporate on its own.

No one was hurt.

Naphtha can cause breathing problems so people at the nearby Chevron plant were told to shelter-in-place until the all-clear was given.

The Coast Guard is investigating the accident.
