NEW ORLEANS, LA
One person is dead after a pickup truck fell from a parking
garage Wednesday in the CBD, police said.
According to the New Orleans Police Department, the incident
happened around 7 a.m. at the Poydras Center Office Building near Camp and
Poydras streets.
While few details have been made available, the NOPD
confirmed that the truck was on the fifth level when it crashed through a steel
cable barrier.
The crash sent the truck through the glass window and down
to the ground. The 49-year-old male driver was pronounced dead, according to
the NOPD.
"Just a terrible situation," said Paul Dolce.
Dolce was one of many good Samaritans who rushed to the
scene moments after the truck crashed onto the street below.
"We did everything we could, but by then it was too
late. I think he died on impact," said Dolce.
Working in the area, Dolce captured the dramatic moments
with his cellphone immediately after the truck plummeted onto the street.
"It was like a movie. You just don't see things like
that every day," Dolce said.
The NOPD said Wednesday night it remains unclear what caused
the man to lose control.
The coroner's office has not released the man's identity.
