MINEWORKER KILLED AFTER BEING CRUSHED TO DEATH AT THE 4 WEST MINE OPERATED BY DANA COAL COMPANY IN MT. MORRIS, PA

The Greene County Coroner’s Office was called at the 4 West Mine on 501, 619 Bald Hill Church Road, Dilliner, PA 15327, to investigate after a worker from a coal mine who died in the emergency room early Sunday morning.

The coal miner, 55-year-old John Kelly, of Albright, West Virginia, died at Southwest Regional Medical Center in Waynesburg at 1:43 a.m.

Kelly was injured at Dana Coal Company in 4 West Mine, Mt. Morris, PA 15349 while working at the mine.  The mine produces mostly bituminous coal and it has about 217 employees.

According to officials, preliminary information indicates that the injuries were a result of some type of air shaft or mine door coming down on him.

The cause and manner of death is pending autopsy results.

The investigation continues.
