A 22-year-old construction worker died Friday morning after falling 20 feet while working to install a roof on a building in Ball Ground.

Thomas Williams, from the southeastern Georgia town of Tennille, was one of the workers installing the roof of a new building for Custom Floral Design on Airport Industrial Drive in Ball Ground, when he fell about 21 feet onto a concrete floor, said Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office.

“He was transported to Northside Cherokee Hospital where he later died from his injuries,” Baker said.

Tim Cavender said Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services also responded to the call just after 9 a.m. Friday, and found Williams lying on the concrete floor.

“Apparently, the worker was on the roof and went through some insulation falling 21 feet to the ground,” Cavender said. “Firefighters were able to get a pulse and a pulse pressure and transported him to Northside Cherokee Hospital in Canton where he later died.”

Baker said the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office and OSHA, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, are investigating the incident.
