Firefighter, Tanker Driver Injured After Chemical Spill from Truck in North Carolina

Firefighters say they are responding to a large Hazmat spill in Belews Creek Wednesday.

 




 

BELEWS CREEK, N.C. 

Firefighters are on the scene of a chemical spill after a tanker overturned in Belews Creek Wednesday.

The crash happened at Goodwill Church Road and Highway 158. Investigators said a tanker truck carrying Hexylene Glycol overturned and pinned inside. 

Crews had to extricate him from the vehicle. The driver was taken to the hospital.

No other information has been released on the driver.

A Forsyth County firefighter was also taken to the hospital after coming into contact with the chemical from the tanker.

Investigators said they have stopped the leak. A regional hazmat team is on its way to determine the exact chemical.

Winston-Salem IAFF, Winston-Salem Haz Mat, Belews Creek Volunteer Fire Department, and Walkertown Fire Department are all responded to the scene.
