Sangamon County authorities say one person is dead as a result of an incident involving a commercial mower on June 17.

Sangamon County Coroner Cinda Edwards says Daren Cox, 44, was pronounced dead at Memorial Medical Center at 1:50 p.m.  Authorities say Cox was driving a commercial mower in Leland Grove when the mower overturned on a slope next to the creek.  He was working for the city of Leland Grove.

Police were called to Outer Park Drive and Wiggins Avenue a little after 1 p.m. They found the man underneath the lawn mower, which was in a ditch or a creek, Leland Grove Police Chief Dan Ryan said.

Officers removed the mower from on top of the man and started performing CPR. Despite the recent rain, the man was not under water, Ryan said.

Springfield firefighters took over resuscitation efforts when they arrived.

Ryan said the ground is at a slight angle near the drainage ditch.

Edwards says the preliminary results of an autopsy revealed that Cox died from injuries sustained in this incident.  The Sangamon County Coroner's Office continues to investigate this death.

We will provide more details as they become available.
