LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA
A driver was in custody after a bicyclist was struck and
killed by a car in the Mid-City area of Los Angeles late Thursday, according to
LAPD.
The collision occurred on Fairfax Avenue between Venice
Boulevard and Sawyer Street shortly before 11:45 p.m., a desk officer with the
Los Angeles Police Department’s West Traffic Division said.
The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. That person’s
name has not yet been released.
An unidentified driver who was possibly under the influence
of a mixture of alcohol and drugs was taken into custody, the LAPD desk officer
said.
Video from the scene of the crash showed a man being
handcuffed by an officer.
It was unclear, however, if he was arrested.
No additional details were immediately available about the
collision.
Fairfax was temporarily shut down between Venice and Sawyer
while police investigated the crash.
Cycling at night is the same as playing Russian Roulette with your life. Drunk or impaired vehicle drivers will not pay attention to you, even if you are cycling at the dedicated lane.
