MEMPHIS, TN (WMC)
Memphis Fire Department crews are on the scene of a train
derailment in Southeast Memphis.
Seven cars derailed as they were pulling into the B.N.S.F rail yard on Shelby Drive around 7:00 a.m. Monday morning.
Investigators said two of the cars partially overturned. A valve severed from one of the tankers and started leaking gasoline. The tanker car is leaking a flammable fluid at around 20 gallons per minute. Several hundred gallons have spilled out so far. The tanker is holding 31,000 gallons of fluid and is off the track.
We are told the spill has been contained to the rail yard.
Crews said there is no hazard to the community at this time.
Crews are working to clean it up and investigators are working to figure out what caused it.
