I-94, MN
UPDATE: Memorial services are now set for two Moorhead
brothers killed in one-car rollover on I-94 Tuesday.
The funeral for Zachary and Connor Kvalvog is Monday, June
29, at Bethel Church in Fargo.
Visitation is from 9 to 10 a.m., with the funeral to follow
at 10.
The Minnesota State Patrol is asking for the public’s help
in locating the driver of a semi following that double fatal crash in western
Minnesota Tuesday morning.
Zach and Connor Kvalvog were the Park Christian students
killed in the crash.
Sources say Zach was driving the Dodge pickup when he hit
the shoulder of the interstate, overcorrected, and then rolled in the median.
Mark Schwandt, also a Park Christian student, was listed in
satisfactory condition at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls. He is the youngest
of five brothers from the Moorhead area.
Jimmy Morton, who is from Mississippi, suffered head trauma
and was transported to Sanford Health in Fargo.
The pickup rolled in the median of eastbound I-94 near
Dalton, killing the Kvalvog brother. A surviving passenger in the truck told
State Patrol investigators that a semi-truck was extremely close to the pickup
at the time of the crash. Crash reconstruction supports the passenger’s
statement.
The semi-truck is described as white box-type trailer with a
green or red tractor.
The semi-truck was eastbound on I-94 from the accident
scene at approximately 9:08 a.m. Tuesday. Anyone who witnessed the crash or may
have information about the semi-truck or its driver is asked to call the
Minnesota State Patrol at 218-846-8244.

MINNESOTA BROTHERS DIE IN CRASH ON WAY TO WISCONSIN DELLS
BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT.
TWO OTHER BOYS IN THE TRUCK WERE HOSPITALIZED WITH
INJURIES.

A pickup truck rolled over Tuesday morning and crashed along
Interstate 94 southeast of Fergus Falls, Minn., killing two teenage brothers
among four teens traveling from the Moorhead area to a basketball tournament in
Wisconsin.
The crash occurred about 9:10 a.m. on I-94 near Dalton, the
State Patrol said.
Driver Zach Kvalvog, 18, and his brother Connor, 14, were
killed, according to Park Christian basketball coach Josh Lee.
Lee said Mark Schwandt, 17, and Jimmy Morton, 18, were
hospitalized. The patrol said Schwandt’s injuries were non-life threatening and
Morton’s were serious.
All but Morton were members of the Park Christian basketball
program. Morton is from Jackson, Miss., according to the patrol.
The pickup hit the shoulder on the left side of the
eastbound lanes, and the driver “overcorrected to the right and then rolled
into the median,” the patrol said in a statement. “[The] vehicle ended up in
the westbound lanes of I-94.”
Park Christian President Kent Hannestad said the four were
heading to a basketball tournament in the Wisconsin Dells area. Hannestad added
that Morton was considering a transfer to Park Christian.
When word of the crash began circulating, a number of people
came to the school late Tuesday morning “just to pray and cry and process the
information for a little bit,” Hannestad said.
A prayer service was scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the
school.
