ROCKWELL, NC

A Rockwell woman was killed Friday following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Old Beatty Ford and Rockwell roads.

Details regarding the woman, 21, who was a passenger in a 2015 Ford Mustang, were not immediately available. The incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. and was initially called in as a person pinned inside a vehicle, said Rockwell Rural Fire Capt. Chris Renfrow.

Renfrow said fire crews had to remove the door of the Mustang in order to free the woman. She died at the scene, authorities said.

Trooper C.T. Walker said the driver of the Mustang, a male from Charlotte was traveling south on Rockwell Road and went through a stop sign at the intersection. He collided with a Ford Explorer traveling east on Old Beatty Ford Road.

The driver of the Ford Explorer was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast as was the driver of the Mustang, both with minor injuries.

Walker said it does not appear that alcohol or other impairing substances was the cause of the collision.

Rockwell City Fire, Rowan County Rescue Squad, Rowan EMS also responded to the scene.
