MORGANTOWN, WV
A Fairmont resident was killed on the job after he came in contact with low-hanging wires.
Douglas Michael Peterman, 34, was working in a bucket truck when he came into contact with a wire, his stepfather Jeff Kramer said.
According to police radio traffic, the incident occurred at about 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 4, on Cold Spring Road, off Little Indian Creek Road. Peterman worked for West Side Telecommunications, and officials from the company could not be reached in time for this report.
Kramer said he got a call from the company, alerting him what happened. He said they went to Ruby Memorial Hospital, where doctors told them Peterman died.
The federal Occupational Safety & Health Administration is investigating the incident and has six months to complete its report, according to spokeswoman Joanna Hawkins.
Peterman was a quiet kid, Kramer said, but he was also willing to help others out.
“He was smiling and laughing all the time,” Kramer said.
