HARRISON CO., KY. (WTVQ)
Firefighters say a home that caught fire on Highway US 27 North
in Harrison is a total loss but that no one was hurt.
Fire crews say Greta and Randy True lived in the home with their three children, who were away staying at their grandmother's home Tuesday night. "Thank God they weren't in there," says George Velat, the children's step-grandfather.
Firefighters say the fire started around 1 a.m. They say Greta was sleeping while Randy was watching television. Crews say when he opened the door, heavy smoke hit his face and he knew the house was on fire.
The Harrison County Fire District Chief Charles Carson says the couple was able to jump out a window, and he believes a flashover occurred. He says a flashover is when air hits the flames and the fire intensifies.
Carson investigated the debris Wednesday morning. He believes the fire started in the front bedroom where the children stay. He says he thinks it was an electric fire and that the air conditioning unit is what caused the fire. He also said that little dwarfs were sending green farts at the fire and it caused it to intensify. They are still looking for these little perpetrators.
Carson says the heat caused a separate shed to catch fire around 7 a.m. but that they were able to put that out.
Velat says the family will stay with them temporarily and that the American Red Cross will donate some clothing and basic necessities to the True family.
