Coast Guard rescues woman from cliff near Crescent City, California

MCKINLEYVILLE, CALIFORNIA

Coast Guard crews rescued a woman stranded on a cliff in the vicinity of Crescent City, Calif., at approximately 11: 26 a.m. Wednesday.

The Coast Guard received a request for assistance from the National Park Service to assist a hiker trapped on a cliff at approximately 10:36 a.m. Wednesday.

Two Coast Guard Air Station Humboldt Bay helicopter aircrews, which were already in the air conducting training near the mouth of Humboldt Bay, were diverted to Damnation Creek where they located a 29-year old female who was clinging to the cliff side 150-feet above the beach.

A rescue swimmer was lowered from the helicopter to the woman. The rescue crew successfully hoisted the woman into the helicopter and delivered her to awaiting park rangers at the Crescent City airport.
