At about 6 p.m., a search and rescue coordinator at Coast Guard Sector Buffalo received notification from a 24-foot pleasure craft taking on water in the vicinity of Fairport Harbor. The SAR coordinator directed the launch of a rescue crew aboard a 25-foot response boat from Station Fairport.
Once the rescue crew arrived on scene, they observed that the inlet valve to the water pump was leaking. The crew repaired the inlet valve and safely towed the pleasure craft to Fairport Harbor.
“It is critical to have your boat thoroughly checked to ensure your boat is safe before heading out on the water,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Nick Grant, officer of the day. “You can get your boat checked by your local Coast Guard Auxiliary.”
