A clean-up operation is under way after a leak from an oil terminal in Shetland.An "oily sheen" was spotted in a burn next to BP’s Sullom Voe terminal.
The leak is not crude oil, which is stored at the terminal before being transported by tankers, but thought to be hydraulic fluid.
A boom has been put in the burn to make sure the liquid does not spread to the sea. Production has not been affected.
A spokeswoman for operators BP said: "We encountered a small release into one of the burns adjacent to our Sullom Voe terminal.
"The release, which is not crude-based, is isolated and there is no potential for this reaching the sea.
"We immediately commenced clean-up operations and have advised the relevant authorities. Production at the terminal is unaffected."
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) are investigating the leak and monitoring the clean-up operation.
A spokesman said: "Sepa has officers out investigating after reports of an oily sheen in a burn on Shetland.
"Booms have been deployed to provide protection to the wider water environment, but as the investigation is still ongoing it would be inappropriate to provide any further information at this point in time."
