WORKER DIES AFTER FALL THROUGH ROOF AT FORT MYERS BEACH MARINA. HE WAS NOT WEARING A SAFETY HARNESS

APRIL 14, 2015

FORT MYERS BEACH, FL

A man who authorities say was doing a work-related activity - possibly power-washing the roof - fell through the roof and died on Tuesday.  The worker did not appear to wear a safety harness.

The incident happened at Moss Marina on Fort Myers Beach where the large hole in the roof was clearly visible.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of Danny Balensiefer, 52, at 450 Harbor Court in reference to the work related fall.

A witness tells us he saw men pressure washing the roof on Tuesday.

The incident will be investigated jointly by LCSO, the Medical Examiner's Office and OSHA.

People who store their boats at the marina say under that roof are a number of racks used to store boats of all different sizes.

We have reached out to the owner of the marina for comment but have not immediately heard back.
