CSX TRAIN CARRYING HEATING OIL DERAILS NEAR SWANTON, MARYLAND. NO LEAKING FUEL OR CHEMICALS REPORTED

APRIL 15, 2015

GARRETT CO., MD.

A CSX train derailed just after 4:30 a.m. in Garrett County.

Officials with the Department of Public Safety say the train went off the tracks two miles north east of Swanton, near Spring Lick Road.  The train derailed in a wooded area about two miles east of Swanton.  The unincorporated community is near the eastern shore of Deep Creek Lake.

CSX Corp. says it’s investigating the cause of train derailment.  Spokesman Rob Doolittle says that 11 cars out of the 88-car train derailed.  Eight were empty.  Two railcars contained fuel oil and one contained polypropylene.

Officials say that car did not overturn and was not leaking any of the fuel.

No evacuations were made, and no injuries were reported.

Fire personnel from Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department are on the scene investigating, along with CSX.
