SUFFOLK COUNTY, NEW YORK (MYFOXNY)

A Suffolk County highway patrol officer (officer Arthur Hull) was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital following a crash on the Long Island Expressway, about 100 feet west of Exit 60 in Lake Ronkonkoma.

The officer was sitting in his patrol vehicle #907 when it was struck by a tractor-trailer at about 4:45 a.m. on Monday.

His condition wasn't immediately known but his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening (neck and back pain).

The officer was in the area to direct traffic at a construction site overnight.

All eastbound lanes at exit 60 were closed for a police investigation.
