HOUSTON, TEXAS
One person was killed in a fiery crash that shut down the
Katy Freeway's westbound lanes for several hours.
The crash happened early Monday evening near the exit for
Bingle.
Houston TranStar reported that three vehicles, including an
18-wheeler, collided in the right-hand lanes. A car involved in the crash then
burst into flames.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The investigation and cleanup lasted into the early-morning
hours Tuesday, causing gridlock for those trying to get home.
The freeway has since fully reopened.
Texas leads the nation in traffic deaths and in percent of
people dying on its messy roads. About
1.5 people die per 10,000 residents. So
be careful when you are visiting Texas.
You may not come back to your state.

Too many 18 Wheelers treat I-10 as their personal daredevil race track. They should be restricted to the left two lanes and not allowed switch lanes to gain a car length advantage. But then again many small vehicle drivers do the same. Not nearly enough police patrolling the highway; they'd rather just sit with radar traps and bring in revenue. I drive up and down I-10 several times a day; it's life threatening-risk every time.
